“Paw-p” Culture: Grammy Winner Adele

DSC_0011_3

Adele.  Dachshund.  A very relevant celebrity and a very relevant breed of dog.  Adele just swept the Grammys winning six for her album “21.”  And a wire-haired dachshund just won  the hound group and then went on to compete for Best in Show at The Westminster Dog Show.  Combine the two and you have Adele’s best four-legged friend, Louie the dachshund (a.k.a. Sausage)!  He is a smooth-haired, red and black, cute little guy.  It is Louie that has been her confidant through all her recent ups and downs, especially while recuperating from vocal chord surgery. She told UK’s “Daily Star” that Louie is the love of my life.  She then joked that maybe her third album will be about puppy love. …

“Paw-p” Culture: Olympian Bryan Volpenhein

Maxine & Charlie

So last weeks warm weather made my mind jump ahead four months. I started to think about walks in the park, vacations, trips to the pool and….the summer Olympics! I don’t know about you but I HIGHLY anticipate every four years when the summer Olympics rolls around. There is something magical and awe-inspiring watching people from around the world who have spent every minute of the previous four years dedicating themselves to their sport. It gives me goose bumps thinking about it! I have also been lucky to vicariously live my own Olympic dreams through Cincinnati’s own, Bryan Volpenhein (who happens to be my husband’s cousin). Bryan Volpenhein is a three-time Olympian, having participated in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 …

“Paw-p” Culture: Zach Day former MLB pitcher

I have been putting off including my husband and our dogs in my blog but I can’t deny any longer that he has at one point had a bit of “celebrity” status. Zach Day is a former major league baseball pitcher and local talent out of LaSalle High School. He made his debut on his birthday in 2002 for the then Montreal Expos. When the Expos moved the team to D.C. Zach was right there with them as a part of the 2005 Washington Nationals. Other teams include Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, and the Minnesota Twins. Unfortunately major shoulder surgery cut his career short, but it didn’t stop him from pursuing his drive to become a entrepreneur. Thus our …

“Paw-p” Culture: Canine Custody Battles

nelly_sm

Ok, so the news of Heidi Klum and Seal possibly divorcing has me more distraught than most celebrity marriages. I don’t know if it is my love of the 90′s smash hit “Crazy” and Project Runway’s funny, down-to-earth host coming together in what seemed like a true romantic love story that could defy the Hollywood divorcing odds, but it really upset me….But it then got me thinking about what happens to the animals involved in break-ups. (I know, what happens to the kids is most important but we all know that most of us pet owners treat them as another member of the family). And in a true coincidence, US Weekly had a blurb about celebrities and their custody battles …
